GST Council Meeting: PAN / Aadhaar made mandatory for certain facilities

In the 45th GST Council meeting held today, the Council has as a measure for streamlining compliances in GST mandated that PAN/Aadhaar will be mandatory for certain facilities under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) law.

As per the decision communicated through a Press Release, aadhaar authentication of registration to be made mandatory for being eligible for filing refund claims and application for revocation of cancellation of registration.

Further, the Council has decided that the GST refund be disbursed in the bank account, which is linked with the same PAN on which registration has been obtained under GST.

It was also decided as a measure of trade facilitation that the unutilized balance in CGST and IGST cash ledger may be allowed to be transferred between distinct persons (entities having the same PAN but registered in different states), without going through the refund procedure, subject to certain safeguards.
