GST Portal Update: Nil Refund application can now be withdrawn

GST

One of the latest updates in regard to the GST portal is that the Goods and Service Tax Network (GSTN) has enabled the option to withdraw Nil Refund applications on the portal.

It is pertinent to mention here that the ‘Nil’ refund claim was filed by numerous registered persons for a certain period of time in form GST RFD-01A/RFD-01 on a common portal. Many of such claims were filed unintentionally despite the fact that they were eligible for claims for that particular period and under that particular category.

As per the prevailing system, the unintentional selection of ‘Nil’ refund filing and once a ‘Nil’ refund claim has been filed for a period under a particular category, re-filing the refund claim for that opted period under that particular category can not be done on the common portal.

Due to the above restriction, many registered persons were demanding a mechanism that will allow them to re-file the refund claim for the period and the category under which the NIL refund claim was inadvertently filed initially.

Considering the demands of such registered persons the GSTN has decided to overcome this issue by enabling the option to withdraw Nil Refund applications on the Goods and Service Tax (GST) portal which will ensure the uniform implementation of the provision of Law.

This is a welcome move as now the registered persons can withdraw the NIl refund applications which were filed inadvertently and file correct refund applications.
